There is a significant lag typing into Word 2007... If I boot up word
in "safe mode" there is no lag... The computer I am having the biggest
problem is a Dell Optiplex 280, Pentium 4 3.2ghz with a gig of ram...
Windows XP Pro SP2...

Here is what I have done so far...

1) Disabled all "add-ins"
2) removed all spell/grammer checking
3) disabled tooltips/screentips

I dont know what else to try and feel like I have searched the
newsgroups pretty thoroughly

The computer also has McAfee Virusscan Corprate, fully updated...

please advise!

Some users report the 'slow typing' problem only occurs when the Review
tab on the Word 2007 ribbon is displayed, so try clicking on one of the
other tabs (Home, Insert, Page Layout, etc.) and see if the problem
persists.

That has no affect... I did add a gig of ram to the PC... that
worked... but it is not the solution I am looking for as I have 140
other PCs in my organization... and I'd like to upgrade them all to
2007...

From what I recall, Safe Mode does not load much in the way of startup
programs, so I would guess that another program on your computer is causing
the problem.

Run msconfig and uncheck startup programs (test one by one, or test all at
once if in a rush).

Sorry I can't help you, but I am having a similar problem (posted in Word
General Questions 1/22/2008 Verrrry slow response once Review or Dev tabs
have been selected) This is my way of cross-posting! When I open Word it's
ok. I don't have a problem until I select the Review or Developer tabs.
Same happens in Word safe mode.

Someone must know why this happens...

Take a look in Add/Remove Programs and see if you have Outlook Add-in (or
something with a similar name). If so, uninstall it and your typing lag
should be corrected along with a few other bugs you may have not encountered
yet. The Outlook Add-in, btw, is part of Media Direct.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email cannot be acknowledged.

Hi

I had the same problem and found when I went to the Review Tab and
changed 'Final showing Markup' to just 'Final' in Tracking and went off
the Review Tab the problem disappeared. I don't know why this worked
because I didn't even have track changes activated.

I don't know if this is of any use to anyone else but I thought I'd
share as this site gave me the idea in the first place. And it's a very
frustrating problem!

I've tried every recommendation here and I still experience an annoying
lag of about 2-4 seconds when I type even just one stupid little
character in Word 2007. I have 3 GB of RAM on a well configured Lenovo
laptop. I never come close to maxing out that memory, but even so, I
have noticed that 30+-page documents with lots of charts and other
images makes the lag even worse. HELP!!!

I also had this problem and none of the solutions helped (also a lenov
thinkpad). I tried most of the solutions posted in this thread. Som
of my letter templates included an image in the header as part of th
letterhead. Letters based on this template would exhibit the slo
typing in the name and address parts but not in the body of the letter.
It then started to affect the body of the letter. I removed the imag
from the header and the problem went away. I don't know what th
resolution is, but this might be helpful to some
