hardware: hp pavilion dv4-1430us entertainment notebook pc
os: windows vista home premium sp2
system: 64-bit
printer: hp photosmart 2610 all-in-one
port: USB001
configuration: usb connected from laptop directly to printer
when i try to print a word document, word gives me the following error
message:
"windows cannot print due to a problem with the current printer setup."
the show help option displays the following:
"this error can appear if a default printer has not been designated or if
the application is unable to locate an existing default printer. to correct
this problem, try one of the following in Microsoft Windows:
*if a printer is not available in the Print dialog box, add a printer.
*if the application cannot find an existing printer that is already
installed, set the printer as the default printer.
*if a default printer is installed but the application is unable to use it,
uninstall the printer driver, and then install the latest version of the
printer driver.
*if the printer is on a print server, make sure the printer is available,
the network is functioning, the server is not stalled, the printer is not out
of paper, or the printer is not suspended by the administrator.
printing issues associated with a network printer are best handled by your
local network administrator. for more information about setting up and
troubleshooting printer connections, see Windows Help and Support. (click the
Start button, and then click Help and Support.)"
when i hit the properties button, i get the same result from above.
when i hit the find printer button, i get the following error message:
"the active directory domain services is currently unavailable."
otherwise, i have completed the different troubleshooting directives above
to no avail.....
when i try to print an excel document, excel gives me the following error
message:
"current printer is unavailable. select another printer."
the show help option displays the same as for word.
when i press the ok button, the printer setup window opens, which displays
the different installed printer options.....i have selected all the different
printers (adobe pdf, hp photosmart 2600, ms xps document writer, etc...) and
none allow me to print....i've even installed an alternate printer driver (hp
deskjet 6500 series) but that also does not work.
when i try to print an email from outlook, outlook gives me the following
error message:
"printing is not available. there are no printers installed. you can select
and confirgure a printer in windows control panel."
the show help option displays the same as for word.
when i try the page setup or print preview i get the same error message as
above.
i have had this problem since i bought my laptop in 8/2009.
i have done many windows updates....not sure if it's a conflicting update
issue....i have reviewed many troubleshooting websites, but have not seen any
solutions that work.
i feel it may be a driver issue, update issue, but not sure.
PLEASE HELP....ANY CLUES OUT THERE????
