When I type the letter "s", the monitor displays "so".

It doesn't happen with any other character.

This problem is happening on the PC at my home and on the PC at work
so it isn't a dirty keyboard or stuck-key problem.

Perhaps you have the wrong keyboard drivers, or have a second keyboard
selected..

Open Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, Languages tab,
Details button. What Default input language, and what keyboard are listed?

My "Installed services" reads:

EN English (United States)
= Keyboard
. US

.. and nothing more. Does yours read the same? Should it read the
same? If you're in Canada, make sure you only have one keyboard listed.

There are a couple other checks suggested here:
http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-a-Keyboard-That-Has-the-Wrong-Characters

Maybe some unique software, common to both machines is causing the
problem. Disable a few utilities you've added and see what happens.
Also run OSK.exe and see if the "S" key misbehaves there too.

OSK.exe displays the keyboard. How do I see if the "S" key misbehaves
there too? Do I click on "S" and where do I see the results?

You click on the "s" after opening whatever program you had opened
before.. it might be a word processor, email, or within a browser form.

When I open Outook then I click the 's' key and the "space" bar on the
OSK.exe keyboard, 'so' is diplayed in the e-mail.

Then the problem is with something other than keyboard drivers.. doesn't
help much, I'm afraid.

If you're not running unique software that might be affecting
keystrokes, such as voice recognition software on both machines, try
doing a malware search. Install, update and run Malwarebytes.
