When you reinstalled OL2003 did it automatically use the existing pst, or
did it create a new, empty one?

What happens when you try to read existing pst's?
How have you connected existing pst's?
What is the *exact* err msg

The system appears to have created a new file. There are now three files when
I try to open one: Outlook (246MB), Outlook1(32MB), Outlook2(672MB). If I
click on Outlook the message is "The file C:\(file path)\Outlook.pst is not
compatible with this version of the Personal Folders information service.
Contact your administrator. If I click on Outlook1, it appears to open the
file, but nothing new is there other than the emails I have received since
reinstalling Office 2003. If I click on Outlook2, I get the same thing as
Outlook1. Still no contact information or history of personal folders.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Outlook and Outlook2 were your original PST files, Outlook 2K3 created
Outlook1 when it found it couldn't open Outlook.

This article http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HP012319871033.aspx#1
seems to imdicate that the Office 2003/2007 PST file is the same beast. Have
you tried running the scanpst tool to check for errors?

I have gone step by step through everything in this article, but still cannot
open the file that contains my emails and contact information from where it
was created in OL2007. This is the third article I have read and none of them
say how to open a OL2007 format in OL2002. Supposedly the files are
compatible to both 2003 and 2007. It must make a difference that my OL is
2002. Still need some help, or I will have to try and reinstall OL2007 and
try and save the file backward compatible.
Thanks

In your first post you said

"My trial ended and I removed the 2007 Outlook, reinstalled 2003 Office,
but can't read the .pst files that has my data in it. Have tried everything
I
have read in the posts, but no success. Any suggestions?"

In your last post you said

"It must make a difference that my OL is 2002"

Can you clarify, as stated in the link, 2002 CANNOT open Outlook 2003/2007
PST files. Quote from the article I linked

"A file that is created in the Office Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst)
format in Outlook 2003 and Office Outlook 2007 is not compatible with
Outlook 97-2002 and cannot be opened in these earlier Outlook versions"

If you are truly running Office 2002 then I think your only choice is to
upgrade to 2003.

After all my confusion, I believe the secret lies in the fact that the OL is
2002, not 2003. I think I know what to do to get my files back. At least,
they are still hanging around.

Thank you

" not compatible with this version of the Personal Folders information

Generally means you are trying to open a data file that was created in a
later version, ie OL2003/OL2007, in the unicode format
All OL versions prior to OL2003 cannot read this format, and I note you now
say you are using OL2002, therefore it cannot read this pst
