In office 2007 I am having issues with some letters not showing up
when typed. This I know sounds totally bizarre but this is what is
happening. The letters are "t,h,v,c". Normally I would chalk this up
to a stuck key on the keyboard or a bad keyboard but I have tried
different keyboards. In fact even when I rdp(remote desktop) into the
problem PC from a different PC I have the same issue.I did not have
this issue with MS Office 2003. The first time I experienced the
issue I rebuilt the whole PC with no avail. This issue happens in
Outlook, Word and OneNote. It does not happen in Excel. To correct
the issue I have to close all of the affected apps and reopen them.

Any ideas?????

Thanks,

Steve

A couple of questions I have for you are, when did you rebuild the PC?
Is there a software/hardware compatibility problem? Also, have you tried
uninstalling/reinstalling office 2007? Which Operating System are you
running? Do you have all of the supported drivers? Is there a problem
with one of the Microsoft updates? And finally, have you scanned your
system for viruses, trojans, etc.,?

Is there a software/hardware compatibility problem?
-No

Also, have you trieduninstalling/reinstalling office 2007?
-I was having the same issue before the rebuild. With the rebuild the
OS and Office were completely wiped and reinstalled.

Which Operating System are you running?
-XP Pro

Do you have all of the supported drivers?
-Yes

Is there a problem with one of the Microsoft updates?
-No

And finally, have you scanned your system for viruses, trojans,
etc.,?.
-No this is a clean system and the issue was present before recent
rebuild. I am also running an Anti-Virus program.

Thanks for your reply,

Steve

This is going to be a silly question, but no one has messed with your
keyboard have they?

Also, does it only occur in word?

What version of word are you using?
is the normal.dot file missing or corrupt?
I know you said you did a fresh install and are using XP Pro, do you
have the Microsoft Word CD?
Can you uninstall/reinstall Word?
Is the help file damaged in word?
Check your Data registry key
You can check your normal.dot by going into my computer, tools, and
folder options and changing the view under show hidden files and folders
so that your normal.dot file will be visible since in xp it's hidden.
If you still can't find it at that point then look under your
application drive (however you have your system partitioned, etc.,) go
into the documents and settings folder, select your user account,
application data, microsoft, and templates.

If you delete this file, word will automatically recreate it for you.
Also, look for any add-ons under the start up folder for Microsoft Word.
Look for plug-ins added to word: Tools, templates, add-ons...

WOW, I thought I was the only one that has expericened this problem. With the exact same letters "t,h,v,c".
I'm having this problem on my PC at work, the PC was just recently ordered new for me, it's less than 3 months old. So when this happened, I just naturally thought it was the keyboard, so I had it replaced, and whaddya know, it wasn't the keyboard at all. I myself am still looking into this issue as to what is causing this, and how to resolve it.
I'm also using Windows XP pro, and Outlook 2007.

Well I don't know if this is a complete fix, but what I did was close Outlook, then reopened it, and the letter t,h,c,v are now working. Now the thing is with me, because I work in Operations, my email stays opened nearly all day everyday, because I remote into it while working from home from time to time. So if you keep your Outlook opened all of the time try closing it then reopening it to see if that resolves it. Again, I think this is only a band-aid fix, not a permanet fix, as I am still looking into this issue.
