After installing office 2007, i find that the scroll wheel function on my
mouse is not working in office 2007. However it is still working outside the
office application. Why is this?

Are you sure it isn't doing anything (something that it wouldn't
normally be scrolling through)? You might be scrolling through a
dropdown box (or the tabs for that matter). If your mouse really
isn't scrolling anything, see if you can get a driver update. What
kind of mouse are you using?

I am experiencing the same problem. The scrollwheel functions fine in all
other programs. It also functions in Office 2007 in scroll bar areas and in
pop-up help windows, but does not function in the main window of Outlook,
Word, or Excel.

I am using an HP USB Mouse (P2355AA) which is plug-and-play. I have looked
for driver updates at HP, but the search returns no results.

I checked the wheel settings, and it is set to "Universal Scrolling."

The mouse worked fine in Office 2003.

Any assistance/advice you might be able to give would be appreciated.

My colleage and I have both upgraded to MS Office 2007.
I am using the original computer I had whereas my colleage got a new system
all together.

He can not scroll in MS documents unless his mouse is over the scroll bar,
or using the up and down buttons ( 5 button optical mouse from Dell) but can
scroll in all other applications with no problems. He hooked up an old mouse
and there are no problems!

I took his 5 button mouse and I have no problem scrolling in MS Office
2007!!!!!!

This is mind boggling.... It's not the mouse, not MS Office.... Please
help.... at This point I just want to solve this mystery!!!!

I also have the same issue. I've setup a dual boot system with my old
XP install and a new Vista install with Office 2007. The scroll wheel
function works just fine with everything in XP and IE7 in Vista with
all the same hardware and mouse driver. Outlook 2007 and Word will
scroll when the mouse is over the scroll bar only and not at all in
Excel. :(

The scroll on my Microsoft Arc mouse works in every program apart fro
Excel 2007, however I have been unable to locate the 'Exceptions' butto
on my 'Wheel tab' in 'Control Panel' (Vista) to add Excel as a
exception.

Is there another way to fix this problem if I have no exception
option? My Touchpad scroll seems to work most of the time in Excel, so
can't understand why the mouse won't.

I work in finance, so use Excel constantly. This is becoming a majo
irritation!

Thank

My mouse scroll button just stopped working with Word 2007, too. I
would zoom in and out on a document, and I couldn't click on anything.

Turned out that I had apparently hit the Ctrl key accidentally, whic
reset my mouse. Hitting the Ctrl key again brought everything back t
normal and I can scroll and click again.

I don't know if this will work for everybody, but it worked for me

I'm experiencing the same thing on my Thinkpad/Lenovo touchpad scroll and
nipple/joystick scroll. However, my Logitech mouse scroll works fine on the
main screen of Word, so my assumption is that it is my touchpad/nipple
drivers?

This was an annoyance when we upgraded to Office 2007, but alas, a
workaround was found. I have an IBM workstation, IBM USB mouse and
Lenovo Mouse Suite installed. It should apply to others as well
(someone already mentioned above about "Universal Scrolling" and they
had an HP USB mouse):
In my wheel properties under mouse settings in Control Panel, I have an
"Exceptions" option for Universal Scrolling and in there I added the
Excel.exe application path, and what-do-you-know... I can scroll!

Here's one for you... ONLY in Word 2007, mouse does not work in the body
of the letter! Menus, Excel, other applications are ok. This is on a new
Vista laptop. USB mouse, or built-in mouse - same problem. I cannot
highlight words, or right-click to spellcheck, etc.

Word 2003 on same laptop is ok. It was reinstalled after 2007 failed.

Hi R.,

There are some add-ins (Laserfiche and Flashpaper among them) that have caused odd behavior with the Mouse in Word 2007, along with
a few reports of specific, brand specific mouse 'control' program features that can show behavior like this.

If you hold down the ctrl key when starting Word do you get the same behavior?

No add-ins added in ;), this is a new, fresh install. I'll check to see
if the [ctrl] key suggestion works, but I won't have the laptop much
longer so I may not get to test it. My boss (yeah of course it's his
laptop) said he will just have to remove then reinstall Office 2007...

There is no special settings of ms office for mouse scroll.
