docx icon issue

Hi,

The icon for docx files has recently changed on my computer, to 'blank
worksheet icon with word symbol' on it, rather then the standard 'word
document with word symbol' you probably have.

Maybe the original icon file is damaged? Anyone know how I can
revert/repair back to the original docx icon? It's a small thing, but
really annoying!

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried running Microsoft Office Diagnostics yet?

I have the same issue. All the .docx icons are blank on my machine. They
look like a sheet of paper with lines on it and the letters DOCX at the
bottom. When you roll over it with the mouse it just says "Type: DOCX File"
instead of "Microsoft Word 2007 File" like it should. It's only with Word
files. Everything else looks ok (.xlsx, .accdb, .pptx are all ok).
Strange.

I tried to look at the registry values as suggested by another post under a
thread titled ".docx file icons missing" but everything looked ok there.

Like most things in life that make you almost throw your machine out o
the window, the solution is actually simples :D

1. Go to Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations
2. Wait for the big long list to load
3. Go down to ".docx", and double-click on it to bring up the "ope
with" box
4. If the default is already on Microsoft Office Word CHANGE it t
WordPad and then click "OK"
5. You'll be returned to the big long list, go back to ".docx" an
double-click on it again.
6. This time select Microsoft Office Word and click "OK"
7. Voila
